If you want to get into a locked door using only a credit card, then here's how. Note that this is not a universal lock pick technique: Credit cards will only work on some locks.

Steps

  1. Take out your credit card and slide it into the vertical crack between the door and the frame as far as it will go at a perpendicular angle with the door.
  2. Tilt the card so the side that's closest to you is almost or is touching the doorknob. Push it again until you feel it slide in more.
  3. Bend the card the opposite way, forcing the lock to go back. Quickly open the door. You've got it!

Tips

  • If You are on the side of the door that the lock is not slanted towards you have to push the card above the lock and then spin it upward to push it in from the opposite side. It will take a few tries to master this but it is not hard. contrary to popular belief you do not have to be on any certain side of the door.
  • This method will not work on certain doors. Some doors have a special tab that sticks along side the latch to prevent picking with a credit card. Also most exterior doors will have an additional deadbolt lock that cannot be picked with a credit card.
  • Cards that bend more easily and are larger will work better when using this technique. Some phone cards are particular large and flexible (such as Virgin Mobile Top-Up cards, Blockbuster, or plastic laminated cards), which makes them ideal for this purpose.
  • If you have an old card (must be larger than a credit card), cut a notch into it so that you can use this technique from both sides of the door.

Warnings

  • Be careful not to damage the card!
  • Regardless of how careful you are, you will probably do serious damage to your credit card. You may prefer to practice with a phone card, or grocery card instead.
  • This will not work on all doors, especially those with dead-bolts or latch shields.
  • Be very careful not to let your card slide through the door jam and get stuck on the other side.
  • Be prepared to show proof that you have the right to open the lock, or you might find yourself behind a locked door of bars that a credit card won't open.
